NerdWallet considers business climate and local economic health

San Francisco, CA (July 23, 2015) – NerdWallet, a consumer finance website, has conducted a study to find the best places in Texas to start a business – and Stafford ranked third.

To determine this ranking, NerdWallet examined 220 places in Texas with populations of 10,000 or more and analyzed the following factors:

  • Business climate
    • Average revenue of businesses
    • Percentage of businesses with paid employees
    • Businesses per 100 people
  • Local economic health
    • Median annual income
    • Median monthly housing costs
    • Unemployment rate

In the Houston metropolitan area, Stafford has the third-highest number of businesses per 100 people (15.26) in the top 10 list. Stafford, a former agricultural community, has grown significantly — especially after property taxes were eliminated for residents and business owners in 1995. Over 2,700 businesses are located here, boasting average revenue per business $2,530,727. These factors contribute to a stable business environment in Stafford, encouraging aspiring entrepreneurs to start a business in the city.

Other cities in the top 10 include Addison and Texas City. See the full study here.
